Arizona Rattlers Returning
Sports Arizona broke the news last week that the Arizona Rattlers would return as part of the new new Arena Football League 1, which was made official during a Monday press conference.
The AFL1 will consist of 16 teams from the old Arena Football League and afl2. The league will open play in 2010 with games expected to begin in late March or early April and continue into the summer.
The old AFL canceled its 2009 season and folded in August, ending a 22-year run for the high-scoring indoor brand of football that helped launch the career of Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner. Play in af2 was never disrupted, but teams ended the season unsure of what would happen next. The AFL owned 50.1 percent of af2.
As expected, Rattlers owner Brett Bouchy said season ticket deposits for the canceled 2009 AFL season will be honored in 2010.
The league will be based out of Tulsa, Okla. Jerry Kurz was named commissioner.
More information about the league will be released in coming weeks.
